PILL PROCEDURE

Medical abortion with Mifepristone + Misoprostol is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a safe and effective procedure. 

This method is 98% effective. It is suggested to use it from the 4th week of pregnancy.  

How do I use the abortion pill?

There are 3 ways to take Misoprostol. 

  • First: BUCCAL (Between your cheeks and gums)
  • Second: SUBLINGUAL (Under your tongue)
  • Third: VAGINAL (In your vagina)

You can choose the best way for you. It’s more recommended the buccal and sublingual ways.

Step-by-step guide

Step 1

Take the Mifepristone pill (Use large glass of water to swallow).

Step 2

After 24 hours to 48 hours, take 4 pills of misoprostol. Place two pills between your cheeks and gums on each side of your mouth. 1 hour before using misoprostol, take a painkiller like ibuprofen (400-600 mg).

FAQ

  • First you should have confirmed your pregnancy by any pregnancy test. 
  • Second is to know your pregnancy weeks (you can use our weeks calculator) to know which doses you’ll need for the procedure. 
  • You need to get the pills (Mifepristone+Misoprostol). Make sure the pills you’re getting are of good quality or approved by the FDA.
  • Optional: Pain medicine like ibuprofen, naproxen or diclofenac
  • Sanitary pads
  • Heating pads or hot compress
  • Thermometer
  • Water or electrolyte

No, your fertility will come back after a few days of abortion (15 days after the procedure depending on your body).

It is recommended not to smoke or drink (alcohol) during the process and 15 days later.

Your fertility will return approximately 15 days after the procedure (it could return before these days or later, depending on your body’s’reaction). 

Abortion with pill is contraindicated when you:

  • Severe anemia 
  • Inherited porphyria
  • Chronic adrenal failure
  • Presence of an Intrauterine device (IUD). Remove it before you do your abortion process.
  • Confirmed and suspected ectopic pregnancy (extra-uterine)
  • Allergy to Mifepristone or Misoprostol
